Treatments
Dental fillings.
A filling repairs a tooth damaged by decay. We use tooth-coloured material, so it blends in with the rest of your smile.
Key facts.
When you need a filling
Decay makes a small hole in your tooth. Left alone, it gets bigger and can start to hurt. A filling stops it and makes your tooth strong again.
You might need one if you have:
- Pain or sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet things
- A hole or dark spot you can see or feel
- A filling that has cracked, worn or fallen out
Fillings that blend in
We use composite, a tooth-coloured material matched to the shade of your tooth, so your filling blends in with your natural teeth.
What happens
- Your dentist numbs the tooth, so you stay comfortable.
- They gently remove the decay.
- They fill the space with tooth-coloured material and shape it to your bite.
- A special light sets it hard, then it's polished smooth.
Most fillings are done in a single visit.
After your filling
- Your lip and tongue may feel numb for a few hours, so take care not to bite them.
- Your tooth may feel a little sensitive for a few days. This is normal.
- Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cut down on sugary food and drinks.
- Call us if your bite feels high or the pain doesn't settle.
What it costs
A core build-up is a larger repair that sits under a crown. Only some teeth need one. “From” prices start at that amount and depend on your treatment. Your dentist will give you a written plan and price before any work starts. See all our prices.
Common questions
How much is a filling?
Our white fillings are from £145 for a small filling, £185 for medium and £250 for large.
Does it hurt?
We numb the tooth first, so you should only feel some pressure.
How long will my filling last?
It depends on its size and how you look after it. Good brushing and regular check-ups help it last.
Can you replace my old silver fillings?
If they're worn or broken, yes. We'll check them first and talk you through it.
