Dental check-ups.
A regular check-up keeps your teeth and gums healthy and spots small problems early, before they become painful or costly.
Key facts.
Why check-ups matter
Most dental problems start small and don't hurt at first. A check-up lets us find them early, when they're quicker and easier to fix.
It's also your time to ask questions, mention anything that's bothering you, and get simple tips for looking after your teeth at home.
New to us?
We're taking new patients. Book a new patient exam online or call us on 01205 337 000. You don't need a referral, and you don't need to be registered with another dentist first.
What your dentist looks at
- Your teeth, for decay, cracks and worn fillings
- Your gums, for early signs of gum disease
- The soft parts of your mouth, such as your tongue and cheeks
- Your bite and your jaw
- X-rays, if you need them
What happens
- We ask about your health, any medicines you take and any worries you have.
- Your dentist checks your teeth, gums and mouth.
- If you need X-rays, we explain why and what they cost before we take them.
- We talk you through what we found and agree a plan together.
- We book your next check-up at a time that suits you.
How often should I come?
It depends on your teeth and gums. The NHS says it could be every 3 months, or as long as every 2 years. Your dentist will recommend what's right for you.
Feeling nervous? Just let us know when you book. We'll take things at your pace and explain everything as we go.
What it costs
X-rays aren't included in the exam price: a small X-ray is £9, a large (OPG) X-ray £35 and a 3D CT scan £95. If you need any treatment, we'll tell you the cost first. “From” prices start at that amount and depend on your treatment. Your dentist will give you a written plan and price before any work starts. Common questions
How much is a check-up?
A new patient or routine exam is £25. If you need X-rays, we'll tell you the cost first.
Are you taking new patients?
Yes. Book a new patient exam online or call us on 01205 337 000.
I haven't been to a dentist in years. Is that OK?
Of course. Lots of people haven't been for a while. There's no judgement, we'll simply see where things are and plan from there.
Should children have check-ups?
Yes. The NHS advises taking children to the dentist when their first teeth come through. Early visits help them feel at ease.
Can I book at the weekend?
Yes. We're open seven days a week: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 5:30pm.
