Dental implants.
A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a fixed, natural looking new tooth. No gaps, and nothing to take out at night.
Key facts.
What is a dental implant?
An implant is a small titanium post that sits in your jawbone, where the root of your tooth used to be. Once it has settled, a crown is fitted on top, giving you a strong, fixed tooth that looks natural.
The benefits
- Fixed in place, so there's nothing to take out
- Looks like a natural tooth
- No need to file down the teeth next to the gap, as a bridge would
- With good care, implants can last many years
In experienced hands
Dr Ahmed Elhdiri has a special interest in dental implants. You can read about him on our team page.
We use 3D (CBCT) X-ray imaging to plan your implant.
How it works
- Consultation. We check your teeth, gums and jawbone, and take scans if needed.
- Your plan. You get a written plan with every step and price.
- Placing the implant. The area is numbed and the implant is placed in your jawbone.
- Healing. The implant settles into the bone over the following months.
- Your new tooth. We fit a crown made to match your teeth.
Looking after your implant
- Some soreness and swelling in the first few days is normal.
- Brush and clean around your implant every day, just like a natural tooth.
- Don't smoke, as it can affect healing.
- Keep up your check-ups and hygiene visits.
Is it right for me?
Implants suit many people. Your general health, your gums and the amount of bone in your jaw all matter, and some people need a bone graft first. We'll check everything at your consultation.
What it costs
If you go ahead with treatment, the cost of your consultation comes off your treatment price. Some people need extra treatment first, such as a bone graft. We'll explain this, and any cost, before you decide. “From” prices start at that amount and depend on your treatment. Your dentist will give you a written plan and price before any work starts. Common questions
How much does an implant cost?
A single implant with a crown is from £2,495. Your consultation is £60, and that's taken off your treatment price if you go ahead.
Does it hurt?
The area is numbed, so you shouldn't feel pain during treatment. You may be sore for a few days afterwards.
How long does the whole process take?
Usually a few months, as the implant needs time to settle into the bone. Your plan will show the timeline.
Are implants available on the NHS?
Only rarely. The NHS says implants are usually private.
