Treatments
Extractions and wisdom teeth.
Sometimes a tooth can't be saved or is causing problems. We take it out gently, under local anaesthetic, with sedation available on request.
Key facts.
When a tooth needs to come out
We always try to save a tooth first. But sometimes taking it out is the best option, for example if it's:
- Badly broken or decayed
- Loose because of gum disease
- A wisdom tooth that's stuck, or keeps getting infected
Wisdom tooth removal
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to come through, usually in your late teens or early twenties. If there isn't enough room, they can come through at an angle or get stuck, causing pain, swelling and infection.
If your wisdom teeth aren't causing problems, you usually don't need them out.
Dr Kamil Aziz is our oral surgeon. You can read about him on our team page.
What happens
- Your dentist checks the tooth and may take an X-ray.
- They numb the area, so you'll feel pressure but no pain.
- They gently loosen and remove the tooth.
- They may place a few stitches and give you a pad to bite on.
- You go home with clear aftercare advice.
Nervous? Sedation is available on request to help you relax.
Healing well
- Take it easy for the rest of the day.
- Don't rinse your mouth, smoke or drink alcohol for the first 24 hours.
- Eat soft food and chew on the other side.
- After 24 hours, gently rinse with warm salty water after meals.
- Call us if you have heavy bleeding, pain that gets worse after a few days, or a bad taste in your mouth.
What it costs
We'll tell you which type of extraction you need, and the price, before we start. “From” prices start at that amount and depend on your treatment. Your dentist will give you a written plan and price before any work starts. See all our prices.
